I would just like to add my two cents to the letters from Clarence F. (Rick) Olson and Donald Schmidt about Joel Heitkamp and Tyler Axness filing an ethics complaint against Rep. Jason Dockter.
I believe Olson is under the impression that Heitkamp and Axness are journalists just because they are on the radio and discuss the news. They are not journalists. They are radio hosts, entertainers, commentators and people who are paid to give their opinions.
They are just like Scott Hennen, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Rachel Maddow and others who are not journalists, but commentators and entertainers whose main objective is to confirm the beliefs and biases of their prime listener or viewer demographic; thereby getting ratings for their respective networks or media organization. Most of the time they do this by citing only the facts that will make their argument and ignoring the ones that will hurt their case.
And this I submit is a big problem in this country, as people no longer differentiate news from opinion, because much of opinion is now presented as news. Journalists are to be unbiased and present the facts without opinion or commentary. Now if Paul Jurgens and Don Haney filed the complaint then Olson would have an argument.
