Letter: Legislating pronouns is a poor use of the North Dakota Legislature's time

"Why do we need to waste so much time on this subject and why do school boards need to make policies regarding this?" asks Fargo resident Kurt Kollman.

Letter to the editor FSA

I read today about Senate Bill 2231 that would bar school districts from making policies accommodating transgender students.

Why do we need to waste so much time on this subject and why do school boards need to make policies regarding this? It’s simple, if a student wants to be referred to as “her” instead of “him” so be it, then the teacher complies to that student’s wishes.

What our legislature should do is come up with funds to help the transgender students mental health, whether it is within the school systems or community. Plus the school systems should create a separate athletic class for just transgenders so they can compete against each other and not destroy girls sports and Title IX.
