Letter: Let's work together to keep our seniors and our staff safe

We’ve done all we can to keep them safe from this deadly virus: we use PPE, follow recommended infection prevention protocols, and make tough choices about limiting visits so that we can prevent the virus from getting in.

At Eventide Senior Living Communities, our colleagues care for the people that have been most seriously impacted by COVID-19: seniors in long-term care settings. We’ve done all we can to keep them safe from this deadly virus: we use PPE, follow recommended infection prevention protocols, and make tough choices about limiting visits so that we can prevent the virus from getting in.

But the challenge has become more intense just as we are headed into the holiday season. The virus is spreading faster than before throughout the counties in which we serve. We must act now, together, to get control of this virus.

This holiday season, please do your part to control the spread of the virus in our communities, which helps protect our seniors and our staff. Following the guidelines from Minnesota and North Dakota’s health departments will help slow the spread of this outbreak and will mean the difference between life and death for some of our most vulnerable neighbors. Simple steps like celebrating at home with only the people you live with and wearing a mask when you are in public will help reduce transmission and save lives.

Make sure you stay connected to the seniors you love through calls, cards and other virtual communications, but be mindful of the risk that in-person visits pose to them.

Let’s work together to keep our seniors safe and keep health care employees working.
