Minnesota State University Moorhead started as a small teachers' college. In the 1950s and 60s, the former President John Neumaier era, it grew academically, being nationally recognized and attracting instructors and students who, in addition to academics, understood the value of hard work, i.e. the Straw Hat Players.
Through the former Presidents Roland Dille and Roland Barden presidencies, the school continued to shine as a place where "things got done, people learned, communities interconnected."
Now, however, with politically correct mandates, a loss of community involvement, a reduction in savvy forward-looking leadership and a drifting toward doing only what it takes to barely stay afloat, the former President Edna Szymanski and current President Anne Blackhurst era has engendered actions leading the way to a somewhat comfortable existence as a small, unremarkable, teachers' college.
