Letter: 'Rat Lickers' believe only what fits their narrative

During the Bubonic Plague they called the anti-mask crowd "Rat Lickers." You would think with the advances in communication and medicine over the last few centuries we wouldn't have Rat Lickers anymore.

A person holds a letter with the text "letter to the editor" overlaid on the image.

In response to Austin Culp's Sept. 7th letter to the editor , I have too many objections to list. I'll give you my largest gripes.

Let's break down your first paragraph, which is a real peach. "While fake news quotes fake science, in order to empower fake dictators, in their quest to turn America into one huge prison; there is little mention that obesity is the main factor relating to deaths from the coronavirus." First off, if the news is fake, then wouldn't the fake science it's reporting actually be true as two negatives make a positive? That's grade school stuff buddy. Empowering fake dictators?! That's what you and all your Trumpist homies are doing believing the garbage (lies) that come from his mouth non-stop. Please tell me he's an honest man so I can have a laugh at your expense.

  • We've all heard the rumor that COVID-19 stats are being inflated; local infectious disease expert has the facts and hard data Dr. Paul Carson says it's "absolute nonsense" to consider COVID as nothing worse than seasonal influenza.

Turning America into one huge prison? Is that the mask you're referring to? I know it's a huge inconvenience to put a piece of fabric over your mouth/nose to potentially save lives. During the Bubonic Plague they called the anti-mask crowd "Rat Lickers." You would think with the advances in communication and medicine over the last few centuries we wouldn't have Rat Lickers anymore. There is little mention that obesity is a contributing factor to coronavirus deaths? Everyone I have talked to in depth about the subject seems to be very well-informed about the risk associated with obesity and this virus. Also, I have seen that fact reported on many news outlets. Search for "obesity and coronavirus" in any search engine and see what you come up with.
For your third paragraph, "Fear has been stoked throughout the land by fake news, our experts at the CDC and by our rulers." It's interesting for you to mention that fear has been stoked by our experts at the CDC and then go on to mention a few of their findings in the same letter. Seeing that you point out the studies in which the CDC found that mask wearing does little to slow the virus spread and that the virus is the cause of death in only 6% of the cases, it would seem as though you only believe the CDC when it fits your narrative that everyone is using this to get the big orange baby out of the White House.

When you mention that the virus has been fatal to many with underlying health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, you're correct. Though I hope you understand how cold of a statement that is considering the rest of the letter you're trying to convince us that this virus isn't that serious. The CDC estimates that about 25 million Americans have diabetes and 15 million have coronary heart disease. If you're saying that the lives of those 40 million Americans aren't as important as the others (which you are), I would assume you're quite selfish and don't have diabetes or heart disease.

To all the Rat Lickers out there: please wear a mask when you can't socially distance so we can put this nightmare behind us. Last time I checked we're all part of the same species and live on the same planet. We're in this together.
