Rob Port’s comments about how “dumb” the kids are who were out demanding action on climate change were offensive in many ways (although I did find it easy to believe the part where Port writes that “I was dumb when I was your age too”).
I did wonder, however, what “apocalyptic faith” or “excesses” he believes Greta Thunberg is promoting and the demonstrators were supporting, since he never tells us what they are. All I’ve ever heard Thunberg argue is that nations and politicians need to listen to what climate scientists have been telling us—such as that people need to greatly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions within the next decade if we want to prevent the effects of climate change from becoming much worse for many decades to come—and to act in accordance with those warnings.
I guess Port must have decided at an early age that listening to scientists is pretty “dumb.” I'm afraid a lot of other adults agree with him, but I'm thankful a lot of younger people are smarter than that.
