I am writing to express my gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of Sen. Rob Kupec, DFL-Moorhead, in working to repeal taxes on Social Security income. As a retiree who has been dependent on Social Security benefits, I understand firsthand the impact that these taxes have on seniors' financial security.

A new DFL Senate majority will hold the chamber by a single vote come January

For many seniors, Social Security benefits represent a significant portion of their retirement income. Unfortunately, many of these individuals are also subject to taxes on their Social Security benefits, which can reduce the amount of money they have to live on each month. This is particularly unfair given that many seniors have already paid taxes on their earnings during their working years.

Kupec's efforts to repeal these taxes are a welcome relief for seniors across the state. By eliminating these taxes, retirees will be able to keep more of their hard-earned Social Security benefits and better afford the necessities of life, such as housing, healthcare, and food.

I want to thank Sen. Kupec for his dedication to improving the lives of seniors and ensuring that they can live with the dignity and security they deserve in their retirement years. I hope that other lawmakers will follow his lead and work to support policies that benefit seniors and their families.

Ella Mathews lives in Moorhead.
