Letter: Thank you to all for 44 years of retail

I have helped customers with school clothes for their children, baby's first pair of shoes, grandpa's new slim jeans, suits for weddings or job interviews, decorating a new home, a young couple's first set of quality cookware, diamonds and gold for anyone.

I have had a career in retail for 44 years at Dayton’s, Marshall Fields and now Macy’s. That career will be coming to an end on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, when I retire.

When I began my career we only had three or four sales each year and coupons were for the grocery stores. We all know retail has changed throughout the years and most dramatically in recent years, behold online shopping. Don’t forget to go into your stores. They all need the foot traffic.

I have loved my career. It may be hard for some people to understand that, but after having worked in all areas of the store and held many different positions, I still have loved my job and I hope you experienced that when I helped you. There may have been a few days when it wasn’t so great, but those were a few.

I have helped customers with school clothes for their children, baby's first pair of shoes, grandpa's new slim jeans, suits for weddings or job interviews, decorating a new home, a young couple‘s first set of quality cookware, diamonds and gold for anyone. A big thank you to each of you that I have helped throughout the 44 years. You have made my job fun and enjoyable. It’s been a great run. Now onto retirement.
