Letter: The most important job of an elected official is public safety
I had a conversation with my stepmother right after the 2016 election. She was hopeful about the new administration for which she voted. I, in turn, made the statement that I just hope he doesn’t kill us. Who knew I would be so prophetic.
Wasting a month and a half early on by not ramping up testing like South Korea did sure set us back. South Korea has around 300 deaths while we are pushing 90,000. Sadly, by not promoting national testing we will go way beyond that.
I had a conversation with a local hero named Dennis Walaker a while back. He passed on to me that the most important job of an elected official is public safety. Wise words from a great leader. Wish we had more folks like that leading the charge.
