I think we in the Midwest like to pat ourselves on the back for having enhanced common sense. Common sense is defined as, "sound judgement in practical matters."
In the most unscientific language, wearing a mask lowers transmission of anything coming out of our mouth or nose. Would you have surgery if your surgeon refused to wear a mask and then sneezed or coughed on your open chest during heart surgery?
Because of COVID-19 it is prudent to not boost its level of transmission by coughing, sneezing, breathing heavily on others.
Others are people you perhaps don't know, but as in safe driving you wouldn't run someone off the road simply because you don't know them and then keep on driving.
I prefer not to be "run off the road" by someone lacking basic common sense and minimal consideration for others.
