Lewis letter: Fuss for Reagan family a bit much

I am sure everyone in America feels badly for the Reagan family's loss and for anyone who has suffered the illness President Ronald Reagan had. However, I don't think he was responsible for all the good things attributed to him.

I am sure everyone in America feels badly for the Reagan family's loss and for anyone who has suffered the illness President Ronald Reagan had. However, I don't think he was responsible for all the good things attributed to him.

Nikita Khrushchev had passed on and the Soviet Union was needing money to keep their economy going. Mikhail Gorbachev was more receptive to help and cooperation with the United States so it became easier for the United States to offer help, and Reagan to say "tear down this wall" and get some action on it.

Reagan is being made out to be a saint while actually he made many mistakes. Have we forgotten the Iran Contra affair and others I won't mention?

It seems to me that the government should not have flown the Reagan family back and forth across the United States at taxpayer expense, while a wounded soldier had to pay his own way from Germany to the U.S.

In my opinion, the fuss made for the Reagan family was a bit much and was more than what was done for the Kennedy family.

President John F. Kennedy faced Khrushchev down in the Cuban crisis where atomic attack was a good possibility. His body was flown back to Washington, not at government expense, and he was murdered on duty.
