In regard to Mel Gibson's film, "The Passion of Christ," it is unbiblical to look for the source of Christ's crucifixion solely on the human level. The death of Jesus was foreordained according to the counsel of God that humanity might be freed from the bondage of sin.
Jesus was "delivered (up to death) by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God." Acts 2:23. "It pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief." Isaiah 53:10.
"For God so loved the world, which he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
