When Moorhead uprooted its historic downtown in favor of that year's architectural fashion, I was a newcomer and guilty bystander. Downtown Fargo is fortunate to have preserved so much of its classic brick. Even the backs of brick buildings have a kind of weathered elegance.
Moorhead would do well to preserve the Kassenborg block and the other remnants of our past. Destroying these last few buildings would be rather like sending Grandmother's patchwork quilt to the landfill and replacing it with a Martha Stewart nylon comforter.
