On Feb. 11, my husband and I and some neighbors went to a public hearing with the North Dakota Department of Health.
This public hearing was to stop American Crystal Sugar Co. from putting in a new industrial waste site adjacent to six residential homes. The area on the map shows them within 250 feet of two residential properties, on Section 14 of Eldorado Township, Traill County. Our neighbors and we feel that it should be at a minimum of one-half mile from a residential home.
In the spring of 2007, American Crystal Sugar put an industrial waste site in Section 20 of Eldorado Township within 250 feet of a residential property. We and the people of Traill County need to stop this now.
This project is to be for 20 years. We would appreciate your support to write a letter to the state Health Department to get this stopped so no residential homes have to put up with the odor, bugs, mosquitoes and bad health that comes from this. You can send your letter to:
Scott A. Radig, P. E., Director, North Dakota Department of Health Division of Waste Management, 918 East Divide Ave., Third Floor, Bismarck, ND 58501-1947.
