Other views: About evolution debate: journalist not a scientist

We have come from monkeys and baboons. We are here by accident. Life has no meaning. When we die we will go into a hole in the ground. It will be as if we never existed.

We have come from monkeys and baboons. We are here by accident. Life has no meaning. When we die we will go into a hole in the ground. It will be as if we never existed.

Thus teacheth the religion of America's state-run church, the public schools. Religion because evolution must be accepted on the basis of faith since scientific evidence to support it does not exist. The Forum's Jack Zaleski (column, Nov. 20) cited Harvard paleontologist, the late Dr. Stephen J. Gould. Not a good choice. Twenty years ago Gould acknowledged the total lack of transitional life forms. Instead of leaping into the arms of God, Gould concocted the notion of "punctuated equilibria." This theory states that every 100 million years or so there is an explosion of evolutionary activity. It happens so fast that it leaves no evidence. Same problem, no evidence. If evolution has occurred there would be infinitely more transitional life forms than fixed forms. In fact we would all be transitional.

Zaleski further cites DNA as "new science" that "overwhelmingly comes down on the side of Darwin's conclusions." Oh? When then did Dr. Francis Crick, the discoverer of the DNA molecule, shock the scientific world by, in effect, stating there is no evidence for evolution? He, like Gould, opts for the bizarre. Crick proposes "directed transpermia," which, incredibly, puts forth the notion that life on this planet was seeded from outer space. This is not science. This is religious faith, and a splendid faith at that.

Zaleski is quite correct in that he states "intelligent design relies on the supernatural." Creation is outside of the scientifically verifiable. It is a supernatural act of God and cannot be put in a test tube. What is observable is fixed life forms in the world today and in the fossil record. There are no transitional life forms.

The purveyors of evolution would have us believe that, as Zaleski puts it, "(evolution) has been rigorously subjected to the scientific method for over a century." Interesting. They have all the evidence on their side but don't want it in the public discourse. What are they afraid of? Isn't truth sharpened by opposing views? Let's have the best of both views discussed openly. Creationism will be exposed for the myth they insist it is, will it not?

Zaleski is a journalist and not a scientist. Were he the latter perhaps he would be aware of the nasty little trade secret of the evolutionists. Scientific evidence for evolution does not exist.
