In regard to the article "Churches lobby members" from the July 11 Forum regarding the redefining of marriage for the state of North Dakota, specifically responding to the statement that "there is certainly more than one Christian position on this issue" made by Bob Uebel:

If there truly is more than one Christian position, those people need to read their Bible, the Christian's guidebook for living.

God makes it very clear where He stands on the issue of homosexuality. In Leviticus 18:22 He says it is "an abomination" (a sin He hates). In fact, in Genesis 19 it says He destroyed two cities that were rampant with citizens who practiced homosexuality, Sodom and Gemorrah, "for the greatness of their sin." And in Romans 1:19-28 He says people who practice homosexuality have exchanged the truth of God for a lie, that they are worshipping the creature rather than the Creator, that these are "degrading passions" and that "they will receive due penalty for their error."

Homosexuality is a sin just like adultery, stealing, lying and immorality. While sins can be forgiven, we will face consequences (as a nation) if we continue on in this sin by supporting it and legalizing it. There is a penalty for living outside God's boundaries (both here on earth as well in eternity). The "thou shalt nots" of the Bible are set up for our protection.

Just like there are road signs that proclaim "one way" and "do not enter," God's word also has such signs for the people He has created. Attempting to legitimize homosexuality by getting society to support it as another form of marriage would be like driving down a one-way street the wrong way and being surprised because we got hit.
