Thursday, Sept. 26 started as such a beautiful day here in Norfolk, Neb., where I have lived for the past 11 years.
Once school had begun, I got the horrific news there was a bank robbery and some were dead. My first month on the job as media para with the Norfolk Public School system would be a trying one. We were in an immediate lockdown for the robbers had gotten away. It was a very eerie feeling being in the lockdown and yet not knowing what was going on on the outside. At the end of the day, the staff members were the safety patrollers outside and we strongly encouraged parents to pick up their children.
I received the word shortly after school was dismissed that my dear friend, Sam Sun was one of those dead.
Today, I attended his funeral with so many emotions. Sun was so full of life. He was very optimistic and didn't have a bad bone in his body. We talked not long before he was killed about getting together and catching up on things. Sadly, that time will not come because murderers, not robbers, took him from his family and friends before his time.
Not only do I encourage every one of you but I challenge each and everyone to call a family member or dear friend to catch up on things. You never know when the time will come when you will be sitting there guilt ridden after some accident and not be able to call, as I am now.
