In regards to the article of Sept. 30; "Fargoan targets city deer":

I was appalled by the action that Billy Nustad wants the city commission of Fargo to do. An open season on animals within the city is ludicrous. The next thing you know there will be a petition to shoot rabbits and songbirds.

Nustad needs to realize at least one thing: Who was in the area first? People keep building and developing land and the wildlife will be displaced. They can only do one thing - stay in the area they belong.

We, the people of Minot, N.D., have learned to deal with the animals, i.e.: deer, turkeys and moose. Leave them alone and they will leave, or work with the Game and Fish Department and humanely remove the animals. A case in point: We have had moose wander through our city; after a few weeks they leave; not like Fargo when we have to shoot the animal, load it on a loader and dispose of it in front of the media.

I chuckled at two of the statements in the story, one stating the concern of the area residents of being hurt by the deer. Anybody knowing wildlife (knows) if you shout or whistle they will leave. Of course if you corner the animal they will attack.

The other is to make it illegal to feed wild animals. Then all the songbird feeders will have to be taken down and bird lovers will have no enjoyment during the year.

I am sure the mess is terrible, but there are shovels and I'm sorry they keep eating trees, but there are devices people can use to scare off the animals.

I sure hope that the City Commission denies your petition for the sake of the animals.
