I am a former Fargo and West Fargo resident, I now reside in Clearwater, Fla., Florida is a smoke-free state; smoking is only allowed in outdoor bars, restaurants and what I call whiskey bars. The whiskey bars are dying because no one wants to go in a smoke-filled bar.

Since only 20 percent of the U.S. population smokes, smokers are a minority. Most Floridians prefer to go to an establishment that does not allow smoking.

It is time for Fargo and North Dakota to catch up with the 21st century and ban smoking in public places.
