I couldn't help but laugh at the first sentence of the Sunday (Aug. 19) editorial:

"The visit of federal laboratory directors to the Red River Valley didn't generate last week's biggest headlines." Of course not! The Forum front page is designated to cover such things as the teen movie, "High School Musical 2," desk rage, pennies, pregnancy, etc., all of these found in just the past week.

And of course, don't forget the infamous naked sushi half-page story some time ago.

There is seldom real news, which is deserving of special attention, such as the Iraq war, political issues, or even the record-breaking rainfall in our neighboring state that killed a number of people this weekend.

When these are included they are usually given a few inches and then continued, buried in the middle somewhere, not even deserving The Back Page.

What are The Forum guidelines for placement of news on the front page? Much of what is placed front and center now seems to me to fit more aptly in Valley R&R, Business, Sports, or at least placed deeper in section A. Shades of my small-town newspaper where even a visit to Grandma's house makes front-page news.
