A Stanford University professor proposes an idea the founding fathers did not want. In establishing the Electoral College, the founding fathers wanted to give an equal weight to small rural states. Rural states deserve a rightful say in who directs their national government.
The Electoral College, while not perfect, is a better system than a popular vote system. In a close election with a popular vote system, the votes coming from rural states would not matter. All elections would be determined by liberal states such as California or New York, which have million of voters, both legal and illegal.
No one would want that.
