Sonia Maassel Jacobsen letter: Thanks to officials of Fargo's marathon

Many thanks to Mark Knutson and the many others who helped to make the 2005 Scheel's Fargo Marathon a reality and a great event. I enjoyed participating and hope to do so next year as well.

I want to say a really big thank you to the citizens of Fargo and guests who were out there cheering for us despite the weather being what it can be in Fargo at this time of year. The bell-ringing, pan-banging, hand-clapping, encouragement-yelling folks who lined the course were very much appreciated.

Another thank you to the many volunteers who provided traffic control for the race, as well as police who assisted with all this. I felt safe throughout the course, and I commend those who planned and executed the traffic control.

Another thank you to the volunteers at the water and sports drink stops. We needed you and you came through for us. A really big thank you to a man at the 19 mile aid station who figured out that runners with cold, wet hands, often wearing gloves, would have trouble ripping open packets of the sports gel, GU. He handed me a packet with the top ripped off and my little "thanks" at the time seems inadequate, so I mention him here.

Fargo-Moorhead gave the runners a big welcome and we are grateful.
