In my opinion, there are two ways to keep our young people in North Dakota. The first is to encourage employers to hire kids coming out of college. Both of my children graduated from college and tried to find jobs in North Dakota. Every potential employer wanted "someone with experience." Who has experience and is getting the jobs? Our older people, who have been in the work force for a while.

Both of my kids found employers in other states that took a chance and hired them with no work experience in their fields. These out-of-state employers are thrilled to get kids from rural North Dakota because of their great work ethic. Our loss, their gain. The second way to keep them here is to let them know that there's no shame in staying in North Dakota.
