Nature itself proclaims God and His creation better than I ever could. With that said, I don't think those who believe in the Earth being created by God 6,000 years ago throw science out the window.
When God created, He created everything in its mature state. If you were to cut one of His trees down the day after creation, it would have shown to be more than a day old. If you were to determine the age of His forest the day after creation, it too would have been more than a day old.
This is why science shows the earth to be much older than 6,000 years.
