Thomas Jacobson letter: Reporting on Cass school was wrong

How unfortunate when a reporter gets the facts wrong, which is exactly what happened in the story about Central Cass School District not releasing the names of the superintendent applicants.

First, the school board does not have the names. All applications were sent to the offices of McPherson & Jacobson L.L.C., Omaha, Neb. Second, a reporter from The Forum contacted McPherson & Jacobson on Friday, May 19, requesting the names of the applicants. The reporter was told that as soon as the applicants' information was processed and entered into the database those names would be released in accordance with the North Dakota open records law.

Legal counsel for The Forum contacted McPherson & Jacobson late Friday afternoon and asked about the status of the release of applicants for the Central Cass superintendent's position. He also was informed that as soon as the information was available it would be released.

No one, not the school board or the consultants for McPherson & Jacobson, has denied access to the names of the superintendent applicants. That information was provided as soon as it was available.
