Tom Sklebar, Millarton, Letter: Failure means public will again take a hit

I do get amused by all the finger-pointing during the silly season of elections. Republicans blame Democrats for all the ills, while Democrats blame Republicans for all the ills.

I do get amused by all the finger-pointing during the silly season of elections. Republicans blame Democrats for all the ills, while Democrats blame Republicans for all the ills.

The facts from the last quarter century are the Republicans in charge of Congress for 10 years, the Democrats in charge for 15 years. There was a Republican president for 17 of the 25 years and a Democrat president for eight years. In the same time frame, there have been 11 years when the president and Congress were of the same party and 14 years when they were opposed.

From my viewpoint, both parties have had the opportunity to solve the Social Security, Medicare, energy, economic and health-care problems and neither party can lay claim to doing the job they promised us to get elected. Both sides have taken their turns saying "my way or the highway."

Both sides have taken turns being an obstructionist to progress. All the while, the American public is the one who reaps the benefits from a failure to act.
