The main reason I bought The Forum on Thursday, Sept. 27, was to find out if any more had been written about the hasty firing of KVLY TV's Tom Szymanski, which in itself is a tragedy. What I did get on the front page was the story of a child being starved to death, and a mother reported to have seen him four days before someone had called 911.

Am I the only one missing something here? Although Michelle Noch had not been living with her children since last spring, apparently she did visit them. Why in the world does she have any right to be shocked over the death of her child when she is quoted saying "his rib cage was showing, and he had no muscle."

Is she herself not somewhat responsible? The notoriety that she is getting for being the tragic figure, the helpless mother, is incomprehensible.

As a mother of five ages 25 to 13 I am well aware of what stress is. Was Michelle so "stressed" that the thought of "his rib cage showing" didn't give her a clue to the health of her own son?

It may take a village to raise a child, but it only takes one person to cause a death.
