Rep. Mike Brandenburg, R-Edgeley, N.D., has joined in the debate (Forum, Jan. 22) over the use of biotech technology in food we eat. It is remarkable that in his response he did not cite any third-party studies of "biotech food" to show its safety. The accuracy of references cited by Dean Hulse and Curt Stofferahn was not challenged. He, instead, tries to discredit the writers of the opposing viewpoints.

It is interesting to note that of the claimed "70 percent of the food on our grocery shelves (that) already contains biotech-derived ingredients," none has labeling that tell us what we are really eating. This issue of "stealth labeling" is shown by the example of milk. The "original" milk is sold as NOT coming from cows treated with BST/rBGH. The other milk is sold with no labeling to show us the use of BST/rBGH in the production of the milk. Monsanto has had a long history of trying to cover up this issue.

Why not tell us what we are eating? Of course they fear the customer will not buy the "biotech food."
