The Moose Lake treatment facility failed to implement a medication control plan, which led to residents selling medication to other residents and engaging in suicidal behavior using medications, the Minnesota Department of Health determined.
Essentia and CommonSpirit signed a letter of intent for Essentia to acquire 17 facilities. However, nurses have not received a guarantee from either health system that the change in ownership will protect the services and jobs the facilities currently offer.
"Prisons and jails are not hermetically sealed," one doctor said. "Once the virus enters a detention center, the regular movement of staff in and out of the facility means that the virus will spread back to the community."
