SDSU sweeps Bison in baseball doubleheader

FARGO — South Dakota State surrendered only eight hits on the day as the Jackrabbits topped North Dakota State 2-1 and 8-1 in a Summit League baseball doubleheader Friday at Newman Outdoor Field.

In Game 1, Jake Malec hit a sacrifice fly for NDSU's lone run. Ben Smith (4-3) tallied the loss. He gave up two runs, both unearned, on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts over eight innings.

Bennett Hostetler went 2-for-3 for the Bison in Game 2. Sean Noel finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.

NDSU concluded the regular season with a record of 19-24 overall and 15-15 in the Summit League. The Bison will need Purdue Fort Wayne to beat Western Illinois on Saturday to be the fourth and final qualifier for next weeks' Summit League baseball championship.
