COLUMBIA, Mo. — Valley City State’s softball team is heading to the NAIA Softball World Series.

With Wednesday’s 7-2 win over Columbia (Mo.) College, Valley City State claimed the championship of the NAIA Opening-Round Tournament. The Vikings will take a 54-3 record and a 21-game winning streak to the NAIA World Series to be held May 23-29 in Springfield, Mo.

Emilee Wilson, a freshman from Esko, Minn., pitched a three-hitter for the Vikings allowing only two earned runs while striking out four in seven innings.

Voni Culp, a senior from Sacramento, Calif., went 2-for-4 with two runs for the Vikings. Emily Smith, a junior from Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, had two RBI. Riley Perryman, a freshman from Cottage Grove, Minn., had a double and a triple driving in two runs and scoring twice. Kadie Anderson, a senior from Jamestown, N.D., went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
