Hillsboro-Central Valley wins state at buzzer
It was a moment high school basketball players often dream about but never realize. Kyle Henningsgard drained a 3-point basket as the buzzer sounded to lift Hillsboro-Central Valley to a 63-60 North Dakota Class B state championship win over Four Winds-Minnewaukan in the Minot State Dome. Henningsgard scored 11 of the Burros' final 13 points in the final 4 minutes and 17 seconds to help knock off the defending state champions.
Kindred girls win state undefeated
In a matchup of unbeaten teams, Kindred claimed a North Dakota Class B state girls basketball championship with a 49-42 win over North Star. Senior Brooke Hiatt scored 15 points and seventh-grader Abby Duchscherer came off the bench to score 13 points. Macey Kvilvang, a center now playing at North Dakota State, led North Star with 22 points.

Eight was not enough for the Moorhead High School boys hockey team. With a 6-3 loss to Grand Rapids before a crowd of 9,367 in the St. Paul Civic Center, the Spuds lost their eighth state championship game-still looking for their first state title. Grand Rapids' top forward line of Gavin Hain (a UND commit), Blake McLaughlin (a Minnesota commit) and Micah Miller (a St. Cloud State commit) scored all six goals. "We didn't have an answer for their top line," said Moorhead coach Jon Ammerman.
UND hockey falls at Scheels Arena
After having a game-winning goal called off for a controversial offside penalty, the University of North Dakota men's hockey team then suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to Boston University in a first-round NCAA Tournament game played at Scheels Arena in Fargo. UND controlled most of the 91 minutes, 48 second epic-the program's longest NCAA tournament game ever-but like so many times earlier this season, the Fighting Hawks only had a loss to show for it.
Ben Woodside ends his basketball career
At the age of 31, Ben Woodside-the all-time leading scorer in North Dakota State men's basketball history-announced the end of his eight-year, professional basketball career that included stops in France, Slovenia, Georgia, Turkey, Spain and New Zealand. Woodside, who scored a school-record 60 points in one game for NDSU, will long be remembered for hitting the game-winning shot that gave the Bison a Summit League Tournament championship win and its first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
