BISMARCK - Thompson catcher Zach Kvidt said his team was capable of putting a lot of runs on the scoreboard.

The Tommies proved it Saturday in their 20-2 victory against Grafton in the North Dakota Class B state baseball tournament championship.

The 20 runs pushed Thompson's total to 46 in three games at the tournament.

"We're a big-hitting team," Kvidt said. "We expected this all year."

Thompson wasted no time getting to Grafton starter Brent Dusek. Matt Greek took the game's first pitch and lined it to right field for a single and Kvidt doubled to right on Dusek's next pitch.

Greek and Kvidt crossed the plate on the third pitch of the game when a throwing error was made on Scott Schumacher's ground ball to the pitcher.

Jacob Wurtz, Aaron Kjemhus and Dave Swatlowski added RBIs in the first inning, as the Tommies' lead reached 5-0 before Grafton even got a chance to hit.

"To hit like this in the tournament is sensational," Thompson head coach Ryam Brantl said.

Thompson added 10 more runs in the second inning. The inning was highlighted by a three-run triple by Kvidt down the right-field line.

"I don't recall a game we've ever won when we've had seven errors," Grafton head coach Chad Kliniske said.

The Tommies scored five more runs during the third inning when Tommies pitcher Wurtz led off the inning with a home run.
