EUGENE, Ore. - North Dakota State senior Whitney Carlson advanced to the long jump finals at the NCAA Division I West Preliminary track and field meet on Thursday.
Carlson earned the final spot from the West Regional preliminary round with a 12th place mark of 20 feet, ¼ inch. It is her second straight trip to the long jump finals. She finished ninth in the event last year earning All-American honors.
Carlson is also competing in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships. She along with Deborah John will compete in the first round of the 100-meter hurdles today.
Christine Schmatz qualified for the women's 800 quarterfinal. Leslie Brost will compete in the pole vault today.
In men's competition, NDSU senior Eric Stroh advanced to the quarterfinals of the 800 meters.
Stroh ran a personal-best time of 1:48.73, placing third in his heat. He'll run in the 24-athlete quarterfinal 7:05 p.m. today. The top 12 athletes in the quarterfinal advance to the NCAA championships in June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
