GLYNDON, Minn. - This is the first time that Terry Karger has had to hire this many coaches.
The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School principal said Tuesday he has candidates that will be nominated for the boys basketball and wrestling coaching openings.
D-G-F also has a vacancy for head girls basketball coach.
Karger didn't say who those candidates were, and he plans on keeping it that way until a school board meeting next Monday.
"We are going to announce and approve all of our coaches at the meeting," Karger said. "We'll have at least two hired. My hope would be all three so our programs and the players in them can move forward."
D-G-F has been without coaches for its winter sports season following an exodus earlier this summer.
The D-G-F school board controversially voted to not renew the contracts of former boys basketball coach Jason Sunde and girls basketball coach Steve Molstre.
More than 30 people spoke in support of Sunde and Molstre keeping their jobs.
Both coaches were not retained and it was never publicly explained by the board why they were let go by the district.
About a week later, wrestling coach Jesse Barnacle stepped down to spend more time with his family.
That resulted in Karger and athletic director Craig Anderson making the hiring of new coaches one of their top priorities this summer.
"We're in the interviewing process (for the girls basketball opening)," Karger said. "Our goal is to get moving on that and get things put in place before the board meeting."
Karger declined to say if any of the candidates that will be recommended are already district employees.
"Our goal is to get things in place so the focus can be back on education," Karger said. "We want kids to focus on education first."
