MINOT, N.D. - The pressure was off Kellie Schmit.

On Wednesday, Schmit signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at the University of North Dakota. On Thursday, the senior dominated in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class B high school volleyball tournament.

The senior had 22 kills and 11 service aces as Kindred swept Flasher 25-11, 25-13, 25-15.

"Knowing that I signed, that helped a lot," the 5-foot-11 outside hitter said. "There was less pressure, less stress, knowing that it's done."

With her powerful hitting and powerful right-handed jump serve, Schmit dominated against Flasher. Schmit had more kills than Flasher's team total (20). She scored 11 points at the serving line; Flasher didn't have a service ace.

But it was just another match for Schmit, who has more than 600 kills this season and more than 1,700 for her career.

"This was pretty typical of her," Kindred coach Brooks Dockter said. "There have been plenty of matches when she's had 20 kills in three sets. She served really. That has been kind of hit-or-miss for her.

"She's a one-of-a-kind athlete. She's put as much time as anyone into her game. And she wants to take the big swings in the big matches."

Kindred used big runs to put each set away early. The Vikings went on an 8-0 spurt to take a 13-4 lead in the first, with Schmit serving five aces. A 7-0 run gave the Vikings a 16-7 advantage in the second. In the third, it was an 8-1 spurt - with six Schmit kills - that gave the Vikings an 11-4 edge.

Alexander Erickson added nine kills for the Vikings, with Casey Allmaras dishing out 32 assists.

Micaela Meyer led Flasher with eight kills.
