MINNEAPOLIS - According to Minnesota State High School League media specialist John Millea, legendary broadcaster Gary Thorne will be doing the TV play-by-play for the Minnesota Class 2A boys hockey tournament.

Thorne is best known for being the voice of the NHL on ESPN and ABC and the voice on EA Sports NHL video game series.

After ESPN did not renew a contract to televise NHL games, Thorne did some play-by-play baseball and football nationally, while also acting as the play-by-play man for the Baltimore Orioles.

The Class 2A tournament is March 6-8 at the Xcel Energy Center and will be televised on KSTC TV in Minnesota.
