GRAND FORKS — It was Red River BMX's biggest weekend of the year, with nearly 200 racers set to get their wheels on the course.
The Gold Cup Qualifier Triple saw 163 racers look to book their spots in the North Central Gold Cup finals in Evansville, Indiana.
Some came from as far as Canada and South Dakota.
Bikers were as young as one year, and as old as 71.
The event best exemplified what Red River BMX's mission is: simply, getting kids on bikes.
Wade and Lacey Anderson have been of Red River BMX since 2013, with all all four of their children involved as well. Last year, the non-profit received a $3,000 grant, which they turned into a scholarship.
"We've had several kids that signed up after the scholarship knowing that they wouldn't have been able to be here otherwise," said Lacey. "It's helped take the financial burden off of families too."
The North Dakota state qualifiers kick off Sunday July 21st.
The finals are on August 16th in Bismarck.
