LAKE TAHOE, Nev. -- Minnesota Vikings receiver Adam Thielen, after a successful 2016 season, is moving up the ranks in the “celebrity” world.

He was invited to play in the American Century Championship pro-am this weekend  on the shores of  Lake Tahoe at the Edgewood Golf Club with the likes of Golden State star Stephen Curry, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, pop star Justin Timberlake, former Vikings defensive lineman Jared Allen, comedian Larry the Cable Guy and former NBA star Charles Barkley.

His first round Friday wasn’t the best as the former Detroit Lakes, Minn., High School golfer shot an 80 on a par-72 course. He had two birdies, nine pars, four bogeys and three double bogeys.

The Vikings leading receiver last year played with Detroit Lions receiver Golden Tate and retired wideout Hines Ward on Friday.

Golf was Thielen’s primary sport at Detroit Lakes where he played on a state championship team in 2007.  He is said to be one of the best golfers on the Vikings roster, according to a report on ESPN, although Thielen said quarterback Sam Bradford is better.

Thielen played receiver at Minnesota State-Mankato after graduating from Detroit Lakes.
