Vavra's blast helps lift Chicago Dogs to victory against RedHawks

FARGO--Trey Vavra belted a grand slam in the second inning to help spark the Chicago Dogs to a 12-7 victory against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Tuesday in American Association baseball at Newman Outdoor Field before 4,801 fans.

Vavra's blast gave the Dogs a 5-0 lead. The RedHawks clawed back to as close at 7-6 in the seventh inning before Chicago added five runs in the ninth inning. The teams combined for 29 hits.

Devan Ahart went 4-for-5 to lead the RedHawks and also scored three runs. Derrick Fox added three RBIs for F-M. The RedHawks (42-32) had a two-game winning streak snapped. The game lasted 4 hours, 26 minutes.
