FARGO — The St. Paul Saints jumped out to an early lead en route to a 5-2 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Thursday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field before 1,593 fans.
Christian Ibarra hit a solo home run, his first this season, for the RedHawks in the bottom of the second inning after St. Paul plated two in the top of the first and another in the top of the second. Brennan Metzger smacked a leadoff double in the bottom of the sixth and was later singled home by Drew Ward for the RedHawks' second run.
Tyler Pike (1-3) notched the loss for F-M, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Chris Chinea got the Saints on the board first with an RBI double in the top of the first inning. Josh Allen later brought Chinea home with a run-scoring single. John Silviano then put the Saints up 3-0 with a leadoff solo homer in the top of the second.
The RedHawks (9-16) took two out of three games against the Saints (11-13) and are slated to next play Milwaukee in a three-game series starting at 6:35 p.m. Friday in Franklin, Wisc.
