Fargo Shanley 6, 2, West Fargo 4, 14
FARGO — Shanley took Game 1 from West Fargo, but the Packers cruised to a Game 2 win for a baseball doubleheader split.
The opener counted toward the Eastern Dakota Conference, while Game 2 was scored as nonconference.
In Game 1, Shanley (10-2, 3-0 EDC) pulled ahead 6-0 after a five-run fourth inning. West Fargo battled back with three in the sixth, another in the seventh and had runners on second and third. Deacons pitcher Dylan Erholtz got a fly out to end the threat and the game.
Shanley’s Zach Sandy had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Calvin Clasen had a hit and two RBIs, Matt Hulstein had two hits and Michael Rostberg drove in two runs.
West Fargo’s Matt Heupel and Aiden Wolf both had two hits and Peyton Jantzi had a hit and two RBIs.
In Game 2, Carter Birrenkott hit a two-run home run for the Packers (7-8, 1-3). Birrenkott and Tanner Larson each had two hits, three runs and three RBIs to lead West Fargo. Seth Wigestrand and Brayden Jacobson each drove in two runs.
Grand Forks Red River 12, Fargo South 3
GRAND FORKS — Red River’s seven-run second inning helped the home team post a win over Fargo South in EDC action.
The Roughriders jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings. A double from Matt Scribar and a single from Spencer Sprowls helped propel that run.
Abram Anderson, Tanner Kirkeby and Matthew Bryant all had two hits for the Bruins, who scored runs in the third and fourth innings. South tallied 11 hits as a team.
Ten players recorded at least one hit for Red River. Ryan Heizehar got the win on the mound, allowing three runs off 11 hits through seven innings.
Red River improved to 3-2 overall and in the EDC. South dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the EDC.
West Fargo Sheyenne 15, Valley City 0
VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Lance Oster and Parker Oien combined for a three-hitter as West Fargo Sheyenne downed Valley City in five innings.
The Mustangs’ Alex Urlaub was 2-for-2, drove in three runs and scored three. Nolan Dodds was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Quade Peters had a triple among his two hits, drove in a run and scored three. Oster helped himself with a single, two RBIs and three runs scored.
On the mound, Oster went four innings, allowed three runs, no walks and struck out 11. Oien needed just nine pitches to get through a perfect fifth inning and he struck out one.
Sheyenne rose to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the EDC. Valley City fell to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the EDC.
Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 7, East Grand Forks 2
GLYNDON, Minn. — D-G-F plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to boost the Rebels to victory over East Grand Forks.
Jordan Summers finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Rebels. Colby Schreiber hit a bases-clearing double with the bases loaded to fuel D-G-F’s fifth-inning surge. Carson Belbas was 2 of 3 with a double and home run.
Rebels pitcher Austin Anderson struck out six batters in 2 2/3 innings to earn the save.
D-G-F rose to 1-3 overall, while EGF fell to 0-2.
