GENEVA, Illinois — The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks appeared to be in good shape through 4-1/2 innings on Sunday, leading Kane County by a run in a road-trip finale on Sunday.
That changed quickly. Kane County knocked RedHawks' starter Gage Hinsz out of the game with a three-run fifth, then added four more in the seventh inning as the Cougars salvaged one of the three weekend games with a 10-5 victory.
The 12-6 RedHawks wrapped a six-game road trip and returned to open a seven-game homestand with four against Milwaukee starting at 7:02 p.m. Monday, May 7.
On Sunday, Kane County's Luis Roman, Jeffrey Baez and Kacy Clemens all homered and Baez, Roman and Cody Young all drove in two runs.
The RedHawks' Manuel Boscan was 4-for-5 with a double and three runs batted in, and Leo Pina and Jordan George both had two hits.
Hinsz took the loss, allowing six earned on seven hits in five innings. The RedHawks' bullpen didn't fare much better, with Austin Ver Steeg and Nathan Foriest both giving up two runs in a combined 1-1/3 innings.
The RedHawks knocked around Cougars starter Jack Fox, who allowed four earned on six hits in three innings. But reliever Christian DeLeon settled things down, working three scoreless innings to get the win.
