There was an old adage around the local TV sports departments about a decade ago that went, have the Twins be relevant until Vikings training camp opens.
That is not the case this year as the team is spiraling towards 90 losses, but there is one reason to watch the team this coming weekend.
Except he doesn't play for Minnesota.
The Angels start a series tomorrow night at Target Field, which means Shohei Ohtani will be here. Ohtani is the biggest story in baseball and yet, the average fan has no idea who he is. Ohtani is the superstar that's clubbed 34 home runs, while also starting on the mound and posting a 3.41 ERA.
It's baseball's fault that whenever Ohtani hits a home run and pitches that it isn't major news. What he's doing hasn't been done since Babe Ruth 100 years ago.
But baseball is too worried about pace of play and pushing fans away rather than embracing one of the truly unique sports phenomenon we have seen.
So Twins fans as you face a future without Buxton and Berrios, at least embrace something historic this weekend, because that's exactly what Ohtani is.
