ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Missouri Western outscored the Minnesota State Moorhead men's basketball team by 14 points in the second half to notch a 70-55 win at the Hillyard Tip-Off Classic on Friday night.
MSUM trailed by a point after a competitive first half, but the Griffons opened the second half on a 9-0 run. Midway through the half, Missouri Western opened up an 18-point advantage, their largest of the night.
Both sides shot 40% from the field, but the Griffons had the edge at the free-throw line, where they sank 15 attempts to MSUM's five. Bryce Irsfeld paced the Dragons with 17 points. Dane Zimmer added 10 points and Kaedrick Williams pulled down 10 rebounds.
MSUM (0-1) will face reigning Division II national champions Northwest Missouri State at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.
