FARGO -- North Dakota State men's basketball may be down a new piece when the season begins.

Donald Carter III, an incoming guard transfer from Scottsdale Community College, has suffered a lower leg injury.

It happened in May during the offseason. It's expected Carter III will be rehabbing through September and into October, leaving an early season return open.

Carter III is coming off a terrific sophomore season, where he averaged 11.6 points per game and dished out six assists per contest for the Fighting Artichokes.

He's expected to be a competitor for the open starting point guard role, which was filled for the last two seasons by another community college transfer, Vinnie Shahid.
