MOORHEAD — Kiley Borowicz started to realize she was having a unique scoring night during the third quarter Saturday at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse. The Minnesota State Moorhead sophomore poured in 15 points in less than four minutes.

That scoring binge fueled a career-high 37 points for Borowicz, who sparked the Dragons to a 79-61 victory against Augustana in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball before 1,132 fans.

"Craziness," Dragons head coach Karla Nelson said.

Borowicz was one point shy of the program's single-game scoring record. Renee Olson scored 38 points for the Dragons in 1994. The 5-foot-8 Borowicz sank nine 3-pointers to set a new school record for single-game 3-point shots made. Dragons assistant coach Cassidy Thorson made eight 3-pointers in a game in 2017.

"I've been under 10 percent the last like five games and I've been shooting really quick so I just took my time and didn't think about it," Borowicz said. "I think that really helped me."

Borowicz was 9-for-16 beyond the arc against the Vikings. She was 3-for-28 (11 percent) from 3-point range in the five previous games. The Dragons (16-2, 12-0 NSIC) have won 14 consecutive games and remained undefeated in conference play. Augustana (17-4, 9-3) was the South Division-leader entering Saturday.

"Augie is a great team," Borowicz said. "I just came out to play and that's pretty cool that it was against them."

The Dragons, who are in first place in the North Division, have a three-game lead for overall first place in the NSIC.

MSUM never trailed and started to take control in the third quarter. Borowicz had 18 of her points in the third quarter, including four 3-pointers. She drained a 15-foot jumper from the baseline that gave the Dragons a 51-35 lead with 4 minutes, 23 seconds to play in the third. That capped a 17-6 run with Borowicz scoring 15 during that stretch.

"We needed somebody to step up and that's what she did," Nelson said. "Not just the scoring, but I thought she played a pretty good floor game."

Borowicz added eight rebounds, one steal and one assist to go along with her career-best point total with the Dragons.

"When she gets it going, it's going," Nelson said. "I think Kiley is at her best when she is just playing and not thinking too much."

The Dragons led by as many as 15 points in the first half, scoring 12 consecutive points during one stretch. Borowicz drained a 3-pointer that gave MSUM a 31-16 lead with 4:42 to play in the second quarter. That capped a 17-2 run.

Augustana countered with the next eight points to cut into that deficit. The Dragons took a 34-29 lead into halftime. Megan Hintz had 12 points in the first two quarters on 5-for-8 shooting from the floor. Hintz finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Borowicz said nine 3-pointers are the most she's made in a game going back to high school. She said 50 points was her single-game best for Roseau (Minn.) High School. Borowicz said she wasn't worried about her overall point total against Augustana.

"Once you start thinking about it, everything goes bad. I didn't want to have that kind of attitude," Borowicz said. "As long as we win, I don't care."
