FARGO — North Dakota State started its fall football camp this week and christened its new artificial turf field on Friday, Aug. 5. The surface is in the shadow of the under-construction indoor practice facility.
Bison senior offensive tackle Cody Mauch said the size of the new practice facility has been a topic of conversation as the structure was being built and now nearing completion.
“It just turned into a joke. Every time we drove by like, ‘Hey, what’s this thing going to be? It’s going to be huge.’ We were joking about it," said Mauch, in his sixth season in the program. “It just seems like six years flew by. It seems like six years ago I was the little guy who didn’t know what was going on, running all over the place. ... This (practice facility) wasn’t even thought of six years ago. It’s cool to see the program progress like this.”
The Bison opened fall camp Thursday and held their first official practice on Dacotah Field before moving over to the new practice field Friday. NDSU is set to open the regular season at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 3 against Drake at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
