FARGO โ€” Video of former North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance working out with Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was posted on social media Thursday, on the prestonsmithphotography Instagram account's story .

Lance is preparing for his third season with the San Francisco 49ers and is coming off an ankle injury that he suffered in Week 2 last year that ended his season.

Smith's videos were shared across multiple social media platforms.

David Lombardi โ€” who covers the 49ers for The Athletic โ€” posted a side-by-side comparison of Lance's current throwing motion to his throwing motion from August 2022.

"Huge difference in at least this one throw," Lombardi wrote. "Lance is holding/releasing the ball much higher and the motion is clearly quicker. Both fixes have been necessary."

The 22-year-old Lance has played in eight games, making four starts, during the first two seasons of his NFL career. The 49ers drafted the 6-foot-4, 224-pound Lance at No. 3 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

He's completed 56 of 102 passes (55%) for 797 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions during his pro career. He's also rushed for 235 yards and a touchdown on 54 attempts over those eight games.

Rookie quarterback Brock Purdy led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game last season before he suffered an elbow injury that required offseason surgery. San Francisco also signed former first-round draft pick Sam Darnold in the offseason, giving the 49ers three QBs with starting experience.

The Preston Smith videos show Lance and Mahomes throwing at TCU's indoor facility. Former South Dakota State quarterback Chris Oladokun, who finished last season with Kansas City, was also shown throwing the ball to various receivers.

Mahomes is a two-time Super Bowl champion.
