STARKVILLE, Miss. — Paige Vargas fired a one-hitter and Reanna Rudd and Kaylee Moore singled in runs in North Dakota State's 2-0 win over Mississippi State on Tuesday at Nusz Park.

Vargas, now 7-5, didn't issue a walk and struck out seven. She allowed Madisyn Kennedy's one-out double in the third, then set down 14 Bulldogs in a row to end the game.

The Bison got on the board in the fourth when Emilee Buringa led off with a single to right field, moved up to third on a ground out and a passed ball, then scored on Rudd's single to center.

NDSU added a run in the sixth when Buringa again hit a lead-off single and took second on a sacrifice bunt. Buringa was erased on Anjolee Aguilar-Beaucage's fielder's choice, but Anguilar-Beaucage took second when Rudd drew a walk. Moore followed with an RBI single to right.

The Bison improved to 14-10 overall and they play Purdue at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, in Starkville.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
